Evolution of zirconium aluminides upon shock-wave loading

摘要
Features of structural transformations in balls of an Al-2% Zr alloy that were subjected to explosive loading with a close level of energy input and a significantly different holdup time of the melt have been studied by optical metallography, electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. It has been established that metastable zirconium aluminides are formed in the melting zone which have the composition and lattice differing I from the corresponding characteristics of the stable Al3Zr phase and metastable aluminides that are formed upon high-rate crystallization of slightly superheated melts at atmospheric pressure.
