Clinical Decision Support Based on OWL Queries in a Knowledge-as-a-Service Architecture

Facing the need to improve access to knowledge and the establishment of means for sharing and organizing data in the health domain, this research describes an architecture based on the paradigm of Knowledge-as-a-Service (KaaS) for knowledge sharing in the health domain, and, through the use of OWL queries, it's demonstrated how such architecture can be used for clinical decision support, together with its flow of execution. Additionally, it is shown a case study of the instantiation of the purposed architecture in the field of nephrology. The development of this research contributed to the creation of a new architecture, called H-KaaS, which established itself as a platform capable of managing multiple data sources and knowledge models, centralizing access to ontologies and other means of knowledge representation through an API that can be instantiated to different purposes, such as clinical decision support and education.
