Spectral and laser properties of Er:Yb:Ba3Gd(PO4)3 crystal at 1.5-1.6 μm

摘要
An Er:Yb:Ba3Gd(PO4)(3) crystal was grown by the Czochralski method. Spectral properties of the crystal associated with 1.5-1.6 mu m laser operation were investigated, including the absorption and fluorescence spectra and the fluorescence decay at room temperature. The fluorescence quantum efficiency of the I-4(13/2) level of Er3+ ions and energy transfer efficiency from Yb3+ to Era(3+) ions were calculated. A CW diode-pumped Er:Yb:Ba3Gd(PO4)(3) laser at 1.5-1.6 mu m with output power of about 73.9 mW and slope efficiency of 16.3% was achieved for the first time in the Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped phosphate crystal.
