To the Editor: Manley et al (Oct. 10 issue)(1) report that the use of high-flow nasal cannulae in very preterm infants was noninferior to the use of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). The pressures that are delivered to the airways with these approaches determine the primary and secondary outcomes of the study. Airway pressures that are delivered by high-flow nasal cannulae and CPAP are difficult to compare and might vary considerably according to the infant's weight, cannula size, and flow rate.(2)-(6) The authors do not provide means and standard deviations of the CPAP pressures and flow rates that ...
