Fabrication of 4-chlorophenol sensor via surface modification of glassy carbon electrode using Co-doped δ-MnO2 as electrocatalyst

Herein, we reported the modification of glassy carbon electrode via Co-doped delta-MnO2 for the electrochemical detection of 4-chloro phenol. Co-doped delta-MnO2 has been synthesized by hydrothermal method. In order to determine the physicochemical characteristics of Co-delta-MnO2 various sophisticated techniques have been used (Powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX)). P-XRD patterns and EDX analysis confirm the formation of Co-delta-MnO2 with no additional impurities whereas the SEM images confirm the generation of spongy ball-like surface morphology of the sample. This Co-delta-MnO2 was deposited on a glassy carbon electrode and this modified glassy carbon electrode (<bold>Co-delta-MnO</bold>(<bold>2</bold>)<bold>/GC-3</bold>) has been used for the electrochemical detection of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP). The sensitivity of <bold>Co-delta-MnO</bold>(<bold>2</bold>)<bold>/GC-3</bold> was found to be 1.49 mu A mu M-1 cm(-2) for 4-CP with 0.097 mu M, limit of detection(.) The fabricated electrode also exhibited good stability, selectivity, and repeatability towards the determination of 4-CP.
