History And Philosophy As A Care Of The Praxis. About A Deferred Encounter Between Pierre Hadot And Michel Foucault

Returning to the interrupted dialogue between Pierre Hadot and Michel Foucault, this paper presents a possible encounter between their views. Despite Hadot himself has made explicit his differences with Foucault ' s reading of the techniques of the self in ancient philosophy, we consider that precisely from the point of disagreement it is possible to grasp an affinity, no longer in their reading of the sources but in their stakes towards the present. Starting from the suggestion that the importance conceded by Hadot to the rise to the perspective of the Universal Reason could be equivalent to the displacement that, according to Foucault, is accomplished by the historical perspective, we recover common issues between the two that allow us to propose a share concern by virtue of which they coincide in relaunching the practical stake of ancient philosophy: to think and to configure one ' s life in relation to the whole (the relationship with others and the world) of which it is a part. The concern mentioned above is what it is explored as a care of the praxis.
