Adults with CHD are a growing population who require an outsized proportion of lifelong medical care. In additional to non-invasive imaging, diagnostic cardiac catheterisation is an essential tool for making important management decisions for CHD patients. A comprehensive diagnostic cardiac catheterisation in CHD patients aims to clarify both anatomy and physiology through oximetry, pressure measurements and angiography. Accomplishing these tasks requires an in-depth knowledge of an individual’s medical and surgical history, aided by any available prior studies including echocardiography, CT or MRI. Physicians caring for CHD patients with high anatomic or physiological complexity should strongly consider referring their patients to specialised CHD centres for all invasive diagnostics given the higher risks of intraprocedural complications in these patients. © 2022 BMJ Publishing Group.
