Without the publisher Hermann Niemeyer, there would have been no DVjs. Using this journal as an example, the article examines, on the basis of unpublished correspondence, the historical conditions and constellations under which a functioning infrastructure for scholarly publishing was created and maintained in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s.
