Superhydrophobic double layered MgAl-LDH/epoxy composite coatings for enhanced anticorrosion performance of magnesium alloys

摘要
The practical applications of magnesium alloys are significantly limited owing to being susceptible to corrosion. In this study, superhydrophobic double layered MgAl-LDH/epoxy (DMALE) composite coatings were fabricated on magnesium alloys by the combination of hydrothermal synthesis and spraying methods, which consisted of a bottom layer of MgAl-LDH(WO42-)/epoxy coating and a top layer of superhydrophobic hexadecyltrimethox-ysilane (HDTMS)-modified MgAl-LDH(CO32-)/epoxy coating. The as-prepared DMALE coating delivered superior superhydrophobic and self-cleaning property. Such composite coating was demonstrated to possess good anti-corrosion property, good chemical stability, and high abrasion resistance. This large-scale prepared composite coating is potentially useful for corrosion protection of magnesium alloys.
