摘要
Although there is currently no cure for SCI/D, there are many areas of active research. The field of stem cell research continues to make strides in identifying potential restor-ative treatments.45 Although some stem cell studies in SCI/D exclude children due to safety concerns, research on the use of mesenchymal stem cells during intrauterine closure for MMC is underway. There are several exciting medical technology devices such as exoskeleton orthoses, brain-machine interfaces (BMI), and limb reanimation through a variety of stimulation paradigms. The potential to have novel treatments for congenital and acquired SCI/D in the near future is quite exciting, but as outlined in this review the importance of comprehensive multidisciplinary care led by a pediatric physiatrist cannot be overstated.
