摘要:
This article provides a historical overview of Venezuela's role in the framework of Sino-US relations, explaning in particular the changes that have taken place since 1999 with the governments of Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro. In line with the abundant literature on the subject, we find that there has been a change of roles in which China has progressively taken over the preferential commercial space in Venezuela that had traditionally been held by the United States since the re-establishment of democracy in 1958. Through an informative analysis using as a source a group of articles published in the six main Spanish national newspapers, Washington's sanctions on Venezuela's oil industry are being assessed, once an incipient thaw occurs triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
