Places of memories-Places of oblivion

Taking up the conference venue of the Dipsat 2022: Leipzig, where the lecture on which the text is based was held, the article considers the link between memory and location. Biographical moments in Sigmund Freud's life, such as his father's failure when attempting to settle in Leipzig and the confrontation with disturbing memories on the Acropolis, serve as the starting point for the considerations presented here. If the presence of the respective place of stay can bring the emergence of memories, the place with which the specific memory is connected, as a sign of reality, bears witness to the real experience and also to the psychological actuality of what has been remembered. As a reminder of the transience of conscious memory, "places of oblivion" relevant to the history of psychoanalysis are recalled.
