Determining factors for the adoption of health information systems: a study on the electronic medical record in Niterói

This study aimed to identify the variables that positively or negatively influence the acceptance of the use of electronic medical records by health professionals working in family health units in the city of Niteroi, as a tool to support the work process. From the literature review, it was identified that the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Davis (1989) would be the most robust for the proposed evaluation. A questionnaire was applied, which resulted in a sample of 244 health professionals and the data obtained were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results confirmed the validity of 4 of the 6 hypotheses. The relationships predicted in the original TAM model were confirmed in this study, but not the resistance on perceived ease of use and External Influence on perceived usefulness.
