摘要
Eagle syndrome is characterized by a set of symptoms caused by an elongated styloid process. Depending on which structures the elongated styloid process impinges upon, Eagle syndrome can present with different symptoms classified into three subtypes: classic, carotid, and styloidogenic jugular compression syndrome. This report describes a patient who presented with symptoms from multiple Eagle syndrome subtypes and fluctuations in onset/resolution of those symptoms. This was thought to be caused by the changing placement of the carotid sheath to the elongated styloid process. The atypical disease progression outlined in this study underscores the variation in presentation which can make diagnosis and treatment of Eagle syndrome difficult. It is, therefore, imperative that healthcare providers be aware of the complex nature of Eagle syndrome to accurately diagnose and treat patients impacted by this condition.
