摘要
The ball burnishing process is a simple, fast, and cost-effective surface finishing process applied to improve the surface integrity of manufactured industrial components. The numerical simulation of this mechanical finishing process is growing interest in the research and industry due to improving the understanding of the surface treatment, analyzing and predicting the effect of the ball burnishing parameters on various surface integrity properties. This paper is a comprehensive and critical review of literature focusing on the recent advances in ball burnishing simulation using the Finite Element Method (FEM) numerical technique. This review involves recent 2D and 3D numerical simulations of the ball burnishing treatment to study surface roughness, residual stresses, microhardness, plastic strain, phase transformation, elastic recovery effect, ball indentation mark and thermal behavior. The reviewed research was organized according to the characteristics of the developed numerical investigations and the prediction parameters obtained by simulation. Finally, the results of this literature analysis can be used in future research on the ball burnishing simulation.
