摘要
Al-2024 is a heat-treatable and extruded Al-Cu alloy commonly used for applications that require high tensile strength, good workability and excellent machinability. The major applications of Al-2024 are fuselage and wings of aircraft, rivets, rotating and reciprocating parts such as brake rotor, piston and driveshaft. In this paper, an attempt has been made to illustrate the effects of particulate reinforcements on the mechanical behaviour of stir cast Al-2024 MMC. The mechanical results exhibited that the addition of particulate reinforcements significantly enhasnced the ultimate tensile strength, ultimate compressive strength, hardness and yield strength of Al-2024 MMC. The mechanical properties of Al-2024 reinforced composites compared with base alloy and in most of the researches the reinforcement added strength to the Al-2024 alloy. The concluding remark of this research highlighted that the Al2O3, SiC and fly ash reinforcements showed maximum mechanical strength with Al-2024 alloy. Moreover, the pie charts discussed in this research will benefit academic scholars to maximise the effective potential of Al-2024 MMC in various applications.
