摘要
Cytokines play a critical role in preparing our immune response to invading pathogens. However, a system to regulate the inflammatory effects of cytokines is equally important to prevent collateral damage. SOCS1 is a key regulator of the JAK-STAT pathway that prevents excessive signaling of interferons and other cytokines. Based on animal models and the early studies of human SOCS1 haploinsufficiency, SOCS1 serves as an essential guardian that fine-tunes the balance between immunity and autoimmunity. Future studies will help us better understand the phenotypic heterogeneity of SOCS1 haploinsufficiency and provide more effective personalized therapeutic approaches.
