摘要
This paper analyzes the relationship between extreme poverty and road fatalities in sub-Saharan Africa using a panel of 42 countries over the period 1990-2014. We adopt the two-step system GMM method and a two-stage estimation framework to check for robustness of the relationship between road fatalities and extreme poverty. Our study finds a positive and significant relationship between deaths from road accidents and extreme poverty for overall road fatalities and only the age group between 15 and 49 years when considering the different age groups. Extreme-poverty-road fatality elasticity post higher values when we adopt the two-stage estimation framework.
