This article addresses the problem related to the lack of compliance with the right to intercultural bilingual education in the Awa community, which is located in the provinces of Imbabura and Carchi in Ecuador, as well as in the South of Narino in Colombia. Despite the fact that this right is enshrined in the Constitution of Ecuador, the reality shows a systematic violation of this right in relation to the Awa culture and population. The situation is further aggravated considering that the Awa peoples are catalogued as a priority attention group and are located in a border zone. Therefore, it is crucial that the State strengthen legal ties with the indigenous cultures present in Ecuador, in order to prevent the rights and guarantees established in the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador and in international human rights treaties, which protect indigenous communities, peoples and nationalities, from being violated. It is imperative that the State assumes its responsibility in the fulfillment of the rights of this community, establishing solid legal ties and promoting public policies that safeguard and enrich the culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples in Ecuador.
