摘要
In this investigation, magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) were produced using an extract of Allium cepa leaf. In the current research work, Allium cepa leaf extract was used as a reducing agent for the green synthesis of nanoparticles and it was characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometer, XRD, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, and zeta potential analysis. The innovation of this study is the utilization of biomass (leaves of Allium cepa) for the production of MgO NPs with good antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Different concentrations of Allium cepa-mediated MgO NPs were prepared for assessing the antioxidant activity using a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The results described that the synthesized nanoparticles were highly stable and spherical with an average size of 12 nm. The antibacterial property was analyzed for synthesized MgO NPs using the agar well diffusion method against dental pathogen. The results revealed that the MgO NPs significantly inhibited the growth of dental pathogen and the DPPH assay proved that synthesized nanoparticles have good antioxidant properties. Allium cepa leaf-mediated MgO NPs showed an IC50 value of 102 mu g/ml. The green synthesized MgO NPs have good biological activities and can be used as new nano-medicine in future research analysis.
