摘要
Professor Evan Mitsoulis' contributions to rheology and computational non-Newtonian fluid mechanics are numerous and have a lasting effect. Evan has produced his scientific contributions at McMaster University as a Ph.D. student, the University of Ottawa as a Professor, and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) as a Professor before his retirement. Prof. Mitsoulis has worked in several important areas such as: (i) modeling of polymer melts and solved benchmark flow and transport problems with viscoelastic fluids such as flow through a contraction, flow around objects (sphere and cylinder) and prediction of extrudate swell important in the design of extrusion operations; (ii) use of the integral viscoelastic K-BKZ model to study the effects of viscoelasticity of complex flows such as in contractions, around objects and through conduits of complex geometry; (iii) study of capillary rheometry in depth for diverse systems such as polymer melts, blends, pastes and foodstuffs where effects, such as viscous heating, pressure dependency of viscosity and wall slip complicate the flow tremendously; (iv) development of advanced finite element algorithms for the solution of steady-state and transient flows of complex materials; (v) development of numerical packages for several complex polymer processing operations, such as extrusion, coextrusion, calendering, wire coating, fiber spinning, film blowing, film casting, and injection molding; (vi) solution of several important fundamental and practical problems in viscoplasticity, including slip at the walls, which is rather the rule than the exception. Prof. Mitsoulis is a mentor for several graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with successful careers, a precious and good friend sharing his ideas, scholarship, and smiles during social events at conferences and not only. Also, an outstanding colleague serving the professional societies (Hellenic Society of Rheology and Polymer Processing Society) unconditionally for the benefit of the members and scientific community in general.
