Low Cost Joining of Inconel 625 and Super Duplex Stainless Steel 2507 through Novel Technique

摘要
In this research, a novel joining technique has been developed which utilizes microwave energy to produce dissimilar joints of Inconel 625 and SAF 2507. In this, graphite rods (instead of charcoal powder used previously) have been used as susceptor for initiating the joining process. Application of graphite rods has helped in not only concentrating the heat near the joint region but it also makes the modified process cleaner than its earlier version due to absence of charcoal powder. Proposed process is able to produce the dissimilar joint in 380 s (3-mm-thick joints) only as compared to 1260 s (6-mm-thick joints) required for producing similar joints of Inconel 625 by previous microwave hybrid heating technique. The proposed process is low cost due to the absence of filler powder. Three dissimilar joints have been developed by using the proposed technique and their microhardness, tensile strength, percent elongation and microstructure have been studied.
