摘要
The railway line embankment was disturbed in 40 spot by heavy rainfall and repetition of heavy axle load (Sakaleshpur to Subramanya road) in India. Rehabilitation of embankments is necessary but the guidelines and specification indicates: if CBR value is less than the minimum bearing strength, the blanket layer design is required in railway embankment construction. The mechanism of improving the blanket layer in the reconstruction of embankment by adapting the suitable designed layer of sub ballast is essential to bear the standard stress and remove the storm water without disturbing the permanent way. In this paper the laboratory work was carried out for the disturbed sample by conducting the California bearing ratio test; with and without geogrids reinforcement. The trails reinforcement installation in different layers shows the improvement in CBR for both soaked and un-soaked condition. The test results revealed that the performance of stabilized soil reinforced with geogrids as a sub base layer provides more bearing strength than the required. By referring the test results we can reduce the blanket layer or we can remove the blanket layer (with geogrid) in railway embankment construction as per the guidelines and specification.
