摘要
Marine based organisms and their bioactive compounds are very attractive in terms of biomedical area. Due to marine ecosystem have harsh environment conditions; marine algae synthesize various bioactive compounds to survive. Genus Ulva (green macro algae) or sea lettuce species are the most abundant representatives abound in coastal waters and have various bioactive compounds. Therefore, Ulva sp. is extensively researched in especially cancer treatment. In this study, the ethanol extract of Ulva rigida C. Agardh collected from Izmir Bay was investigated by MTT, LDH, TAC, TOS and HET-CAM assays to determine its anticancer potential. The extract of U. rigida showed significant cytotoxic effect on human cervix adenocarcinoma (HeLa) cells (IC50 value is 21 +/- 4.84 mg/L). The extract had a moderate anti-angiogenic activity (Score value is 0.98 +/- 0.3 at 50 mu M concentration). Our results showed that U. rigida has a good potential cervical cancer therapy agent.
