Beyond the tension between the duty and pleasure of reading: towards a proposal for engaged reading

摘要
It is clear that reading is an indispensable element for human development in its cognitive, intellectual, personal, and socio-political aspects, and it is also expected to be a source of playfulness and satisfaction. Such diversity of purposes impacts the promotion of reading practices inside and outside the school environment. Therefore, notions of pleasure, right and duty are strained through the comparison between the contributions of authors such as Candido (2012), Castrillon (2011), Pennac (1997), Barthes (1988, 2015), Freire (2011), and Soares (2005). The reflection on the indispensability of reading in the light of this reflection leads to the proposal of questioning the dogma of pleasure in favor of a commitment policy in the realm of reading.
