Vocal fold paralysis in systemic lupus erythematosus: Case report and review of literature

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that produces autoantibodies targeting multiple organs in the body [1]. It is diagnosed based on clinical manifestations and laboratory investigations [1]. Its clinical presentation varies depending on the organ involved, ranging from rash and arthritis through anemia and thrombocytopenia to serositis, nephritis, seizures, and psychosis [1]. Vocal fold paralysis and mononeuropathy have not been widely reported as a manifestation of SLE. We are presenting a 44-year-old male who showed up in the otolaryngology clinic with right vocal fold paralysis.
