SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA IN BRAZILIAN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

This article investigates the contributions of the Environmental Agenda in Public Administration in local management for the sustainability of the 11 Brazilian capital cities that are signatories of the Sustainable Cities Program. Scientific publications on Sustainable Cities and the Environmental Agenda in Public Administration were used as theoretical basis. The research followed a qualitative approach and data collection was carried out using official information available at the homepages of the 11 Municipalities, the 11 Regional Electoral Courts of the States to which these cities belong, and the 07 Political Parties to which the mayors were linked. The results reveal the need to make the themes of Sustainable Development, Sustainability, Sustainable Cities and the Environmental Agenda in Public Administration official in the regiments of these political parties, as well as to make the planning instruments serve as a basis for municipal government management. The research contributes in an original way by triangulating the sustainability agenda with information on environmental management within Brazilian cities, being able to assist public managers in the elaboration and execution of government plans.
