摘要
Eschatology is a key component that Thomas Hobbes uses for his political philosophy. Hobbes turns to eschatology to strengthen his political philosophy against the backdrop of millenarianism in England. Although Hobbes' scholars and commentators pay attention to Hobbes' eschatological project, no one adequately addresses his reasoning on the "Kingdom of Satan", which is presented in the last chapter of Leviathan. Hobbes does not develop the concept of the " Kingdom of Satan" anywhere before. This idea is developed in his opus magnum, Leviathan. the "Kingdom of Satan" is opposed to the concept of the "Kingdom of God". but Hobbes makes his own adjustments to the concept of the "Kingdom of God": it is no longer the "perpetual felicity of Heaven", but a natural form, a basis for the subject to submit to his sovereign until the end of the world. Enemies and threats to sovereign authority become the "Kingdom of Satan", which creates an obstacle to the sovereign's authority and the ability of the subjects to potentially enter the "Kingdom of God". I turn to Michel Foucault's notion of "political historicism", which allows highlighting commonalities among opponents of sovereign power in England who have turned to eschatology. This kind of discourse is united by the common idea of agreeing that all human history is a relationship of domination; therefore, any civil authority is taken out of the bracket. However, opponents of civil authority who rely on religion and eschatology in their political actions are, according to Hobbes, the " Kingdom of Satan" - a " Confederacy of Deceivers". The fact that they are a confederacy rather than a state or commonwealth condemns them to exist within the natural state because confederacy is the basic form of human coexistence in the natural state, which has no potential for a social contract. In the end, Hobbes concludes that the subjects will be saved and resurrected on the Day of Judgment, while the proponents of the "Kingdom of Satan" will die again. Thus, the only way to salvation and entrance into the "Kingdom of God" becomes a "quiet waiting for the coming again" in harmony with the Sovereign.
