Smartphone dermoscopy with linear polarizers and light reflector

Techniques for acquiring dermoscopic images using readily available equipment are of interest for telemedicine.1 Unlike nonpolarized dermoscopy, polarized dermoscopy can capture without using immersion fluid and may be more useful for certain lesions. Attaching linear polarizer sheets to a smartphone offers cross-polarized photography.2 However, the built-in flashlight of the smartphone may not be able to illuminate the lesions as bright as desired for dermoscopy purpose.
