摘要
The inadequate development of reading and writing competence hinders oral and written expression, critical reflection, and analytical thinking in secondary education. The objective was to propose active strategies for reading and writing competence in the learning of Language and Literature among students in Upper Basic Level at Dr. Gonzalo Abad Grijalva Educational Unit in the Chone canton, during the first term of the 2023-2024 academic year. A mixed-methods field study was conducted, complemented by bibliographic and documentary research. Theoretical methods such as observation, deductive-inductive reasoning, analytical, synthetic, and statistical approaches were used. Research techniques included a diagnostic assessment, observation sheets for students, and structured interviews with teachers. The results from the observation process indicate that the application of active strategies enhances the understanding of implicit meanings in a subject and coherence in writing texts. Additionally, both the diagnostic findings and the perspective of teachers emphasize that strategic planning in the classroom facilitates interdisciplinary development of reading and writing competence. In conclusion, it was evident that promoting reading and writing, coupled with active learning strategies and connection to educational reality, stimulates critical thinking and creativity in upper basic level students.
