The effect of burnout on parenting self-efficacy and satisfaction with life in academician mothers: the case of Turkey

The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between burnout and parenting self-efficacy and satisfaction with life among academician mothers. Correlational survey model was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 385 academician mothers working in universities in Turkey in the 2021-2022 academic year. Personal Information Form, Maslach Burnout Inventory, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale Among Mothers were used to collect data. Data were collected through online interview. Mothers' perceptions of parenting self-efficacy vary depending on how they define being a mother, their titles and long working hours. These variables also caused differences in the feeling of burnout. Additionally, a negative relationship was found between burnout level and parents' ages. It was concluded that the burnout of academic mothers affected both their self-efficacy and life satisfaction. It is recommended to conduct further studies on academician mothers and to determine support systems that will increase their parenting self-efficacy and satisfaction with life and reduce their feeling of burnout.
