The antibacterial and cytotoxicity effect of silver ferrite nanocomposite biosynthesized using Allium Sativum plant extract

摘要
This study aims to characterize the biosynthesized Fe-Ag NPs using Allium Sativum extract. First, the characterization was conducted using different methods, including Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Zeta-potential and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Then, the disc and well diffusion methods were conducted to evaluate the antibacterial effect against six different strains of bacteria. Moreover, the MTT assay was used to study the anticancer activity on HEPG2 and MCF-7 cancer cell lines. The characterization results showed that the size was 10-40 nm with a spherical shape and had a zeta potential equal to +6.07 mV. Furthermore, the prepared nanocomposites inhibited the bacterial growth by giving a clear zone, and the MTT assay showed that the IC50 of the Fe-Ag NPs were 21.4 & mu;g/mL and 34.8 & mu;g/mL for MCF7 and HEPG2, respectively. In conclusion, this work represents the biosynthesized Fe-AgNPs which have anticancer and antibacterial activity in addition to their safety against normal skin cells.
