摘要
In recent years, the removal of dyes from wastewater has attracted considerable attention due to their harmful effects on the ecosystem and human health. Therefore, sawdust and sugar scum as by-products have been used to produce a low-cost composite for the removal of dyes from wastewater. The composite was characterized by SEM/EDX, FTIR, XRD, pH(pzc), and its capacity to adsorb methylene blue (MB). The produced adsorbent had a porous structure and a pH(pzc) of 7.95. The maximum uptake of MB was found 66.72 mg/g at temperature 25 degrees C, for an adsorbent dose of 0.4 g/L, and MB concentration of 100 mg/L with a contact time of 1 h determined by kinetic test. The adsorption equilibrium of MB was well explained by the pseudo-second-order and Freundlich models. The sugar scum-sawdust composite was found to be an effective material for dye removal from wastewater.
