Schwere Verlaufe einer COVID-19-Erkrankung sind durch eine exzessive Immunreaktion, den so genannten Zytokinsturm, gekennzeichnet. Das Mikrobiom des Darms scheint in diesen Krankheitsprozess uber verschiedene Metabolite involviert zu sein, wie eine aktuelle Studie aus Japan zeigte.
