The Epidemiological Trend of Breast Cancer in the South of Fars Province in Iran

Background Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the most common cause of cancer death among women. This study aimed to investigate the 6-year epidemiological trend of breast cancer in Gerash city. Methods The present study is a descriptive epidemiological study, and the study population was breast cancer patients in women (C50 (C50.0-C50.9)) in Gerash city in the south of Fars province during the years 2016-2021 and in 6 years, to further analyze this information, it entered the EXCEL program. Results Between 2016 and 2021, a total of 780 cancers were registered in Gerash city, breast cancer accounts for 22.3% of all cancers in this city. The average age of women with breast cancer in 2021 was lower than in previous years and in the range of 43.2 +/- 13.2, and the highest age was reported in 2019 in the range of 55.2 6 13.6, which indicates a decrease in the age of cancer patients in the city of Gerash, the age trend of breast cancer patients in Gerash city was almost constant between 2016 and 2017and the trend of increasing age was reported from 2018 to 2019 and then the trend of decreasing age from 2020 to 2021. Conclusion Based on the results of this study, the prevalence of breast cancer in Gerash city is high and shows a growing trend, so it needs more attention from health policy makers in this city, especially Gerash University of Medical Sciences.
