Peculiarities of Light Absorption in Chirped One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals

摘要
Peculiarities of light absorption and localization in one-dimensional chirped photonic crystals (PC) are analyzed. It is demonstrated that the integral over a broad spectral interval energy density of light remains nearly constant despite the fact that chirping causes the PC to lose an ideal periodicity. It is also demonstrated that violation of the ideal periodic structure (chirping) can not only reduce integral absorption in a wide spectral interval but also lead to an increase in such absorption in a PC depending on the form of chirping and modulation of the imaginary part of the dielectric permittivity. Analysis of the evolution of the absorption spectra caused by changes in the chirping contrast revealed that transmission minibands characterized by substantial absorption appear within the photonic band gap at certain values of the chirping contrast.
