The impact of tizanidine on E24 carbon steel corrosion inhibition in oilfield acidizing solution: experimental and quantum chemical studies

Tizanidine (TIZ) was studied as a potential inhibitor for E24 carbon steel corrosion in 10% HCl utilizing experimental (weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; EIS and potentiodynamic polarization; PDP) as well as quantum chemical studies. The experiments indicated that the process of corrosion considerably decreased upon addition of TIZ. Increasing TIZ's concentration increased the inhibition efficiency while rise in temperature decreased the efficiency. Optimum efficiency of TIZ (97.1%) was achieved at 7 x 10(-3) M concentration and temperature of 303 K, with weight loss method. Polarization result revealed mixed-mode inhibition mechanism. TIZ's adsorption on the steel surface obeyed Langmuir isotherm. The morphology of the E24 steel surface without and with TIZ was examined utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The theoretical studies showed consistency in its results with that from experiment.
