摘要
In the March 2023 issue of IEEE Spectrum, IEEE President Saifur Rahman addressed the need for IEEE to be a leader in efforts to combat the effects of climate change [1]. Members of the Industry Applications Society (IAS) are actively involved in climate-related issues, from the Cement Industry Committee to the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conversion Systems Committee, from the Rural Electric Power Committee to Industrial Lighting. Our recent past-president of IAS, Dr. Wei-Jen Lee, is a member of the IEEE Ad Hoc Committee to Coordinate IEEE's Response to Climate Change. Extreme events that have been linked to climate change are an increasing threat to interconnected power systems across the globe. Steps to limit the impact on power systems and on those industries that depend on uninterrupted power supplies to support continuous processes are a critical part of the effort to combat the effects of climate change.
