The preparation of surface texture by EDM is considered as an effective method to improve the tribological properties of mechanical parts. In this study, a new water-in-oil (W/O) working fluid for the preparation of surface texture in EDM was developed, and a micro-pit array was prepared on AISI 1045 steel. The surface texture prepared with the water-in-oil working fluid exhibited high wear resistance performance. The analysis combined with the wear mechanism and mathematical model showed that the high wear resistance performance of the surface texture prepared by W/O working fluid was due to its good anti-deformation ability and efficient wear debris trapping ability.
