摘要
Fortunately, the vast majority of children with WT will enjoy good oncologic outcomes. Therefore, future investigation will focus on improving out-comes for patients at increased risk of relapse and decreasing therapy for patients expected to experience excellent results based on risk stratifi-cation. From a surgical standpoint, for unilateral WT, a complete upfront resection optimizes dis-ease control and allows for ideal biologic risk strat-ification. Specifically, surgical education targeting lymph node sampling, both in terms of location and ideal number of nodes to be sampled, will be a major area of study. In addition, surgical inter-vention can reduce morbidity with the appropriate utilization of post-chemotherapy partial nephrec-tomy for those children with bilateral WT or unilat-eral WT with a predisposition syndrome.
