Perioperative and postoperative complications with ASD surgery are frequent given the complex nature of the surgical procedure and the typical comorbidity burden in patients with ASD. Given this high complication rate, it is crucial to recognize and treat the most common surgical and medical complications. As outlined in this article, comprehensive optimization is crucial as are the perioperative strategies to avoid, mitigate and/or treat complications as highlighted in this article.
