Clavulinopsis albescens: An unexpected new species of clavarioid fungi from southern China

A new species of Clavulinopsis was collected from southern China, was identified as Clavulinopsis albescens based on morphological and molecular evidence. This fungus is mainly characterized by sulphur yellow to pale lemon yellow and unbranched basidiomata, basidia with four sterigmata, smooth and globose to subglobose spores, abundant clamp connections. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of Clavulinopsis albescens and related species was carried out based on the sequences of ITS and nrLSU. The combination of morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis confirmed that Clavulinopsis albescens as a new species in Clavulinopsis.
