A Curious Case of New-Onset Diabetes

New-onset type 1 diabetes most frequently presents with diabetic ketoacidosis in young patients. A subset of patients with autoimmune type 1 diabetes may present with a slower progression to insulin deficiency and are frequently misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Clinicians should screen for type 1 diabetes in patients who present with hyperglycemia and do not have obvious signs of insulin resistance or obesity. This case report presents an adult patient with hyperglycemia after a hospital admission for coronavirus disease 2019 and the evidence used to diagnose type 1 diabetes with atypical presentation.& COPY; 2022 The Authors.
