摘要
Challenges exist in the applicability of thermoplastic foams as scaffolds for bone tissue engineering including mismatch of mechanical properties. Template assisted electrodeposition was carried out to fabricate hybrid polymeric-metallic foams. Compression test, cytotoxicity and biofunctionality evaluations was performed on polyurethane coated niobium foams to investigate the enhancement of desired properties. Results indicated that ultimate compressive strength of polyurethane foams improved due to the niobium coatings. Biocompatibility evaluations showed that the niobium coated foams were biocompatible. Bio-functionality evaluations showed that the coating of niobium on polyurethane decreases its ability to support osteoblastic cell attachment and proliferation.
