Can Democratic Caring Save Our Planet?

Thinkers often worry whether democratic people can impose upon themselves the changes necessary to stop the serious environmental degradation humans have inflicted upon the earth. This paper argues that only if democracies become more caring, and only if they practice caring in democratic ways, might it be possible to effect such radical change. The paper will explore the nature of caring democracy, protection versus care, and how genuinely democratic caring can grow out of caring practices. © 2023 Revue Philosophique de Louvain.
