Creative Education and Active Methodologies: A Systematic Review of the Literature

In the past few years, a lot has changed in terms of teaching and the teacher's role in the classroom. Several methodologies were developed and are now available to improve the quality of the learning process. Creative active methodologies are strategies capable of catching students' attention and motivating them to learn more and search more for information. This study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) about creative education with a focus on active methodologies. Our goal is to provide key elements to describe SLR and metanalysis (PRISMA). In order to do that, a survey of academic/scientific papers was performed in two databases in the web (Scopus and Web of Science) and it was guided by the question: "In creative education systems, which active methodologies are commonly used in the learning process?". To answer this question, we included open access papers published from 2017 to 2022, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Next, we assessed the papers' quality. We verified a predominance of international studies in its vast majority from the social science field. Through a word cloud analysis, we observed the predominance of the word "students". We found similarities and divergences with respect to the use of teaching active methodologies between the studies. However, all of them point out the need for teachers to implement new teaching methodologies that are creative, especially in this current scenario of social distancing and great technology achievements. All the studies analyzed concluded that the use of such teaching methodologies helps students to grow in many aspects of their lives, including personal and career-wise, and helps us to build a society with improved critical sense and creativity.
