摘要
This paper briefly summarizes my favorite highlights of the plant pathology research presented at the 12th Japan-US Seminar in Plant Pathology and hones in on the associated panel discussion in which career pro-fessionals in the field of plant science were probed for their observations on a series of topics that are popular amongst scientists from all disciplines around the world. Panelists highlighted the pros and cons of social media, publications, academic networking platforms, literature corrections, and scientific communication in a variety of contexts as well as the challenges marginalized groups experience in science. Here, I synthesize the recent research progress of American and Japanese plant pathologists, as well as panelists' observations and audience members' comments with peer-reviewed literature and provide extra resources and recommendations that I hope will help readers to achieve success in, and out, of academia and science.
