Effect of electro spark deposition coatings on surface hardness and corrosion resistance of ductile iron

摘要
In this study, the electro spark deposition (ESD) technique was used to coat ductile iron (DI) with nickel (Ni), AISI 304 stainless steel (304 SS), and Inconel 718 super alloy (Inconel 718) materials. The microstructures of coated ductile iron were examined for micro hardness, layer thickness, and corrosion resistance. Analyses of the microstructure and content of the coatings were carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). While the corrosion resistance (3.978 k omega) has increased as a result of the thicker layer (55 mu m) on Inconel 718 coated DI, Inconel 718's hardness value (480 HV0.05) is lower than 304 SS's (532 HV0.05). The current density of Inconel 718-coated DI is the lowest (15.60 mu Acm(-2)) when compared to the uncoated and coated conditions. The coating on Inconel 718 is not as uniform as the coating on 304 SS. The higher Rp value Inconel 718 coated DI significantly improved the coated samples' ability to resist corrosion.
