Mechanical, dielectric properties and gamma-ray buildup factors of CaO-Li2O-B2O3-As2O3 glasses: Significant role of As2O3

摘要
Newly boro-arsenic (BCL-As) glasses with chemical compositions 15CaO -15Li2O - (70-x)B2O3- xAs2O3: x = 0 (BCL-As0), 5 (BCL-As5), 10 (BCL-As10), 15 (BCL-As15), and 20 (BCL-As20) in mol% were synthesized via the quenching melt technique. The role of As2O3 on the mechanical, dielectric characteristics and gamma-ray and neutronshielding features of BCL-As specimens have been investigated. The maximum values of exposure- (EBF) and absorption- (EABF) buildup factors shift towards higher values as the molar fraction of arsenic (As) element increased in the samples. This reflects its effect the shielding properties of each glassy mixture. The BCL-As0 glass sample possesses the maximum value of neutron-removal-cross-section value of ER = 0.1074 in the absence of arsenic in the sample and possesses the highest Poisson ratio (a = 0.40675) among all studied samples. The elastic moduli of the prepared BCL-As specimens were enhanced with increasing As2O3 concentration in the sample network. Young-modulus was varied from 43.26695 GPa to 67.54429 GPa, bulk (B) modulus changed from 34.86087 GPa to 72.29779 GPa, shear (S) modulus varied from 16.72935 GPa to 25.12264 and longitudinal (L) modulus was changed from 47.40789 GPa to 91.13977 GPa. The dielectric parameter and dielectric-loss (i.e., tan 8) was enhanced with As2O3 concentration.
