Purpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to present the history of allergen immunotherapy.Recent FindingsAn overview of allergen immunotherapy suggests its roots comes from the immunological treatment of contagious disease. The idea, beginning in the 18th century, that one could be protected against certain illnesses was extended to the field of allergy successfully in 1911.SummaryThis review presents highlights of the advances by many of the individuals who have contributed to the science of allergen immunotherapy.
